R

ichmond-on-Swale Morrismen perform traditional dances in various styles. These are mostly from a collection of  dances from several towns and villages in the Cotswolds.

We meet and practice each Thursday in the winter months  in Cleasby village hall close to Richmond and Darlington. During the summer months, we tour the area visiting many of the excellent pubs to dance and sing (see Our Pubs page). We also meet and dance with other Morris sides, and travel abroad. Further information is given on other pages of our web-site.

Members of our side are also active in other folk pursuits playing and calling for ceilidh bands,  performing in folk performances such as Mummers and Pace Egging plays. These plays are usually performed around Christmas and Eastertime.  A new activity was commenced in 2007 with the establishment of a singing group. The group should be able to complement the the music and song that follows our dancing in the summer months when we tour the area on Thursday nights. These additional activities are quite normal for any Morris dance team, and we don't claim any special status for these activities.

On these web pages, you can view photographs of our dancers, and those of other teams we meet. Some are from the North-East, some from other parts of the UK, and others from North America. A page is given over to the pubs in our area who kindly invite us to dance and sing on their premises and who stock a good selection of real ales.
